Prof. Göksun is a researcher in the fields of language and cognitive development, language-cognition, and multimodal communication and thinking. She has published 109 peer-reviewed journal articles, 10 book chapters, and 43 peer-reviewed conference proceedings on these topics. She has given several keynote lectures at international and National conferences (e.g., the European Conference on Developmental Psychology, the Conference of the International Society for Gesture Studies, and the IEEE International Conference on Development and Learning). Based on her early achievements in language research, she received the prestigious James S. McDonnell Human Cognition Scholar Award and many national awards. She was recently elected as a member of the Science Academy of Turkey (2025). Since January 2104, she supervised 22 MA students, 7 PhD students, 6 postdoctoral researchers, 9 undergraduate honors thesis projects, 29 undergraduate independent projects, and over 70 volunteer research assistants. She has promoted her graduate students’ independent, unique research lines. Her former undergraduate and MA students were admitted to the US and European graduate programs (e.g., Harvard, NYU, Yale, University of Chicago, University of California San Diego, University of California Davis, Purdue University, Radboud University, and KU Leuven). Some stayed in Türkiye and continued their studies at national universities. She has also served on 18 PhD and 19 MA thesis committees at Koç and was an external committee member of 9 PhD and 14 MA theses from several international (University of Zurich, Radboud University, Macquarie University) and national universities. Her lab is committed to diversity and inclusion, and she has supervised students from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds, as well as those with different sexual orientations and genders. She was the coordinator for the Cognitive and Brain Sciences track program and is the co-coordinator for the User Experience track program at Koç University. She was the department coordinator from September 2022 to December 2025. She was recently appointed as the inaugural Academic Director of Internationalization. She was the Secretary General for the International Studies for Gesture Studies (2016 - 2022), served on the Society for Research in Child Development’s Publications Committee and as the chair of the International Representation Subcommittee (2021-2022), and has been an elected member of the Cognitive Science Society Governing Board (2021 - present), chairing the Diversity & Inclusion and Outreach Subcommittees. She is an Associate Editor for three journals (Infancy, Journal of Cognition and Development, and Cognitive Science).
