!!Claudio Cuello - Biography
\\
Claudio Cuello is a Highly Cited Scientist (ISI, USA), renowned for his pioneering contributions to neuroscience and neuropharmacology. He has advanced these fields through seminal publications on dendritic neurotransmitter release, the localization and function of central and peripheral neuropeptides, trophic factor–induced repair, synaptogenesis, and innovative applications of monoclonal antibodies in brain research. His landmark discoveries include the demonstration of neurotransmitter release by dendrites and the identification of novel neuroactive peptides in the central nervous system of both experimental animals and the human brain. He elucidated critical mechanisms underlying preclinical Alzheimer’s disease, notably a trophic factor deficiency resulting from the dysregulation of an NGF metabolic pathway first identified by his laboratory. Throughout his career, Dr. Cuello has collaborated closely with distinguished scientists, including William F. Ganong, Leslie Iversen, and Nobel Laureate César Milstein, with whom he co-developed monoclonal antibodies for use in the neurosciences. He currently leads a research team investigating multidisciplinary aspects of aging, models of Alzheimer’s disease neuropathology, inflammation, and CNS degeneration and repair. His achievements have been recognized through numerous Canadian distinctions, including the Heinz Lehmann Award and the Novartis Award, and his election as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. Dr. Cuello is Honorary Professor at Norman Bethune University (China) and the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina), Doctor Honoris Causa at the Federal University of Ceará (Brazil), and Honorary Doctor of Medicine at Kuopio University (Finland). His scientific trajectory is chronicled in The History of Neuroscience in Autobiography (USA Society for Neuroscience). For his contributions to neuroscience, biotechnology, and academic leadership, he was appointed Officer of the Order of Canada by the Hon. David Johnston, Governor General of Canada. In 2018, he was elected Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences (UK) and, in 2021, Foreign Member of the Spanish Royal Academy of Medicine. Recognized as a Highly Cited Neuroscientist by the Institute for Scientific Information (USA), he has accrued nearly 40,000 citations, with a current H-index of 108 (Google Scholar).\\
