Roshan Cools is Full Professor of Cognitive Neuropsychiatry at the Radboud University Medical Center in Nijmegen and principal investigator of the Donders Institute. She obtained her MPhil and PhD degrees at Cambridge University, UK, before doing a postdoc at UC Berkeley. Her area of research is human Cognitive Neuroscience in which she studies the brain basis of motivational and cognitive control in healthy people as well as neurological and psychiatric disorders. She applies an interdisciplinary approach integrating cognitive and chemical neuroimaging, genetics, pharmacology and cognitive science.

She is author of more than 100 articles (> 8000 citations; 465 citations per year) in renowned journals including Neuron, Current Biology and Brain. Her H factor is 44, which is remarkably high considering her age (40) and years since PhD (2003). Three of her seminal papers, of which one single-author paper (Cools, 2006), have already been cited more than 500 times each.

 She is an elected Fellow of the Association for Psychologial Science (UK, 2013) and received numerous awards and personal fellowships including the 2012 Young Investigator Award of the Cognitive Neuroscience Society, the 2008 Vidi and 2014 Vici Awards from the Dutch Organization for Scientific Research, the 2011 Radboud Science Award, and the 2012 James McDonnell Scholar Award.

She trained 22 PhD students (8 completed) and 10 postdocs (4 completed), many of whom continued to succeed in academia, often with prestigious fellowships like the Rubicon Fellowship (2x), Veni Fellowship (3 x), Axa fellowship (3x), Niels Stensen Fellowship, Fyssen Fellowship and the Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowship (1x). She herself has obtained more than 8 million euros of grant funding.
