!!Benoît Chassaing - Biography
\\
I am Benoit Chassaing, 39 years old, head of the Microbiome-Host Interaction team (9 members) and Research Director. I have two children, aged 9 and 5 years old, for whom I took short career breaks. My main research interest relates to host-microbiota interactions, which developed through many years of education, training, and experience, in France and the U.S..\\
\\
My Ph.D. research examined microbial determinants of chronic inflammatory diseases. As a post-doctoral fellow, I broadened my focus to consider how the intestinal microbiota can promote a range of diseases associated with chronic inflammation. These endeavors resulted in the acquisition of expertise in analyzing and manipulating the microbiota and led me to develop novel approaches to assay the localization and pro-inflammatory potential of the microbiota, providing means to study functional consequences of microbiota perturbations. The numerous publications that resulted from this work add to our understanding of how genetic and dietary factors can disturb microbiota in ways that promote inflammation. \\
\\
Overall, my accomplishments in this area have resulted in my international recognition as a leader in the field of host-microbiota interactions, as exemplified by my organizations of scientific conferences, invitation to 57 international conferences over the last 5 years, and hearing as a scientific expert by The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the World Health Organization (WHO). \\
\\
In 2015, I launched an independent laboratory in the U.S which was relocated to France in 2019, thanks to the support of an ERC Starting Grant (INVADERS). My lab’s overall focus is to provide mechanistic insights into the causes and consequences of altered host/microbiota interactions. Recent findings from my lab have advanced the understanding of how diet-induced disruption of the microbiota can promote inflammation impacting colitis, metabolic diseases, and cancer. During these efforts, we preliminary observed that microbiota modulation by dietary factors is highly personalized, and we are now proposing to use our accumulated expertise to significantly expand the microbiota-based personalized medicine field of research.\\
\\
In April 2024, I relocated my research activity, becoming Principal Investigator of an independent research unit within the Institut Pasteur, Paris, France. I was recently granted an ERC Consolidator grant which will allow me to bring my career to the next level by both supporting our research on microbiota-targeted approaches to beneficially impact human health, as well as by offering the opportunity to support the training and development of more early career scientists in my group.\\ \\[{ALLOW view All}][{ALLOW edit bchassaing}][{ALLOW upload bchassaing}][{ALLOW comment All}]
