__Professor Lorna Casselton CBE MA DSc FRS__
\\ \\
It is with sadness and regret that we announce the death of Professor Lorna Casselton CBE MA DSc FRS, Emeritus Professor of Fungal Genetics and Honorary Fellow of St Cross College. Professor Casselton died on Thursday 13th February following a short illness.
\\ \\
Professor Casselton’s research focused on sexual development in fungi. She was particularly distinguished for her genetic and molecular analysis of the mushroom Coprinus cinereus. She was a long term member of St Cross College becoming a Fellow of the College in 1993, and latterly elected to an Honorary Fellowship upon retirement. Professor Casselton was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1999 and was appointed CBE in the 2012 Birthday Honours for services to fungal genetics and international science. Throughout her career she held a range of senior research positions including Professor of Genetics at Queen Mary College, London, and Professor of Fungal Genetics in the Department of Plant Sciences at Oxford.
\\ \\
Our thoughts are with Professor Casselton’s family at this time.
