!!Gustavo Cardoso - Biography
\\
Gustavo Alberto Guerreiro Seabra Leitão Cardoso (born 1969) is a Portuguese sociologist mainly associated with studies in the fields of networked communication, journalism and the Internet.
\\ \\
He is a full professor of Communication Sciences at ISCTE - University Institute of Lisbon, Portugal and member of the College d’Études Mondiales at the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme in Paris.
\\ \\
He is the author and co-author of a wide range of works, from books, book chapters and journal articles in national and foreign publications that focus on the various dimensions (social, cultural, educational, political and economic) of the impact of information and communication technologies (ICT) in society.
\\ \\
His book " Para uma sociologia do ciberespaço: comunidades virtuais em português [[Towards a Sociology of Cyberspace: Virtual Communities in Portuguese]" stands out for its pioneering research, constituting one of the first works in the Portuguese-speaking academic world on the relation between the Internet and online communities and sociability.
\\ \\
In more recent works Cardoso develops the concept of “Network Communication”, the communication model of the Network Society giving shape to an engagement with communication where the “people is the message”.
\\ \\
Furthermore, works such as "A Sociedade dos Ecrãs [[The Screen Society]" and " O livro, o leitor e a leitura digital [[The book, the reader and digital reading]" deal with the implications of the "networked communication" model for the on-going transformations in the creative industries and the commercial models.
\\ \\
In his contribution to the book "Aftermath: The Cultures of the Economic Crisis", traditional research subjects of political economy are scrutinized through the perspective of ICT-enabled networked cultures. He contributes to the idea that the crisis of global capitalism that has taken place since 2008 is more than just an economic crisis, being socio-structural and multidimensional.\\ \\
