The Academy of Athens is the highest intellectual institution of Greece. The members of the Academy and the scientific personnel of its various Research Centers are amongst the most specialized and internationally recognized scientists of the country. According to its founding law, the Academy of Athens has as object, among others, the study of products and elements of nature in Greece. For this scope, the Academy provides support through opinions, proposals, decisions and judgments to enlighten and guide the relevant authorities and for the benefit of the public and private needs of the country. More specifically, the Research Center for Atmospheric Physics and Climatology (RCAPC) of the Academy of Athens aims to collect and process observations and modeling projections related to climate change research. The scientific research in RCAPC has led to more than 230 publications in relevant peer-review journals with over 15000 citations. Some examples of recent emblematic climate change activities at the Academy of Athens are listed below in short (amongst others):
\\
*Coordination of the research study on the socioeconomic effects of anthropogenic climate change in Greece during the 21st century, published by the Bank of Greece.

*Coordinating role in the preparation of the relevant Greek legislation for the adaptation and mitigation of climate change at the Ministry of Environment and Energy.

*The Academy of Athens is part of the trilateral agreement with Stockholm University and TEMES S.A., established for the operation of NEO (Navarino Environmental Observatory). The collaboration is dedicated to the study of climate change and its effects on the natural environment and human activities in the Mediterranean.

*Leading role in Programme LIFE-IP AdaptlnGR: “Boosting the implementation of adaptation policy across Greece, 2019-2026” for the optimal implementation of the climate change adaptation strategy at national and regional level.

*Scientific support of the Coordinating Working Group of the international initiative of Greece, for the protection of cultural heritage and natural monuments from the effects of climate change. UNESCO and the World Meteorological Organisation are also participating in this initiative.

*Establishment of a Committee of Experts called the “Research Committee on the Sustainability of Greek Forest Ecosystems”. The purpose of the Committee is to investigate the resilience of the country’s forest ecosystems to specific meteorological-climatic conditions that threaten them. The Committee will examine the impact of climate change on the country’s forest ecosystems.

*Participation in the network of Local Authorities for climate change and the mitigation of its effects (CLIMATTICA), at the initiative of the Region of Attica.

*Participation in H2020 Program: “Evaluation and Quality Control (EQC) of global protducts-CAMS_82”.

*Implementation of the research project “Mineralogy of dust emissions and effects on the environment and health” (Hellenic Foundation of Research and Innovation) with the object of studying the physicochemical properties of suspended particles of desert dust.

*Consulting of the Ministry of Migration on the environmental and climate education programs for immigrants in Greece.

*Cooperation with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs on the establishment of remote sensing networks in Greece for the monitoring of severe weather and natural hazards.

*Focal point in Greece for the Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The over-arching goal of ACE is to empower all members of society to engage in climate action, through education, training, public awareness, public participation, public access to information, and international cooperation.
