\\ \\
''ECSS 2017 with the central theme: __Informatics Connects!__ will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, 23-25th October 2017, hosted by the NOVA University of Lisbon.
\\ \\
The annual Summit is the only place, where leaders and decision makers in Informatics research and education in Europe gather to debate strategic themes and trends related to research, education and policies in Informatics.''
\\
!!Workshop of the Academia Europaea Informatics section members

12:30-13:30 Arrival of __AE-I members__ and joint lunch (with IE & ERCIM)\\
13:30-16:30 Workshop sessions\\
16:30-17:00 Break (at same time as other events)\\
17:00-18:00/18:30 Workshop sessions\\
19:00 Joint Welcome reception\\

!3 colleagues will give statements (with each 30 minutes) on their activities which all (could) interface with AE-I activities:

__Lynda Hardman__talks about Informatics Europe and their current activities and strategy. This would explain the current (permanent) working groups and other temporary initiatives. The membership is departmental based.
Permanent: Education (annual award), Women in Informatics (annual award), Ethics (still developing, but there is interest together with ACM Europe), Lobbying (not yet started) Temporary: Evaluating Informatics Research
Informatics Europe works with ACM Europe and ERCIM on issues of common interest. [http://www.informatics-europe.org]
\\ \\
__Domenico Laforenza__ talks about the same topics from the ERCIM perspective. ERCIM membership is also institute/department based. They organise the Cor Baayen young researcher award and have strong interests in open
access. [https://www.ercim.eu]
\\ \\
__Wendy Hall__ talks about the ACM Europe Council. She has chaired the council for the last two years and will be also a speaker at the main conference in Lisbon. There are "issues" with ACM being perceived as USA-centric, but Wendy is very aware of these issues and is trying to benefit "Informatics in Europe" through the strengths of ACM. ACM membership is individual. They are trying to get more European members to become ACM Fellows and other higher grades. [http://europe.acm.org]
\\ \\
__Discussions after the talks could be based around__
\\
*where does __AE-I__ want to become involved with existing initiatives and
*where should we start new ones and who should be involved

The purpose of this meeting is mainly gathering of facts and a better joint understanding of the context in which __AE-I__ operates. After the presentations the __AE-I__ members will continue to discuss our own strategy and plans.
