On Wednesday, 2 September, 2026, from 15:00 to 16:30 CEST, the [Academia Europaea Budapest Knowledge Hub|https://mta.hu/aebudapest] will host an online event on Zoom to discuss possibilities of Widening European participation in European Research Council (ERC) grants. The event will feature a keynote introductory speech by [Prof. Maria Leptin|Member/Leptin_Maria] MAE, (President of the ERC) presenting the [white paper|https://erc.europa.eu/system/files/2026-03/Widening%20excellence%20-%20Bridging%20the%20ERC%20gap%20for%20a%20truly%20pan-European%20Research%20Area%20-%20ERC%20Scientific%20Council%20white%20paper.pdf] of the ERC working group on Widening European participation. This talk will be followed by two best practice examples from widening countries, first, the successful Czech ERC mentoring scheme will be presented by [Prof. Zdenek Strakos|https://www.karlin.mff.cuni.cz/~strakos] (Charles University in Prague), then [Prof. András Stipsicz|https://users.renyi.hu/~stipsicz] (ERC Scientific Council member, Rényi Institute) will share the secrets of the very successful application of the Rényi Institute’s researchers to various ERC grants. These presentations will be followed by a Q&A session moderated by [Katalin Solymosi|https://katalinsolymosi.elte.hu/index.php/en] (FYAE, vice academic director of the AE Budapest Hub). The aim of this event is to understand various obstacles, difficulties as well as good practices to overcome them with the ultimate goal to promote wider participation among researchers from EU13, Associated Countries as well as outside of Europe.__
