Paul Oberhammer - Biography#


Paul Oberhammer is a full professor at Vienna University (Department of Civil Procedure). He has completed his education at Vienna University (Magister iuris, 1991; Doctor iuris, 1992). In 1997, he was appointed as associate professor at the Department of Civil Procedure there. In 2001, he was appointed as full professor at Halle-Wittenberg University, Germany (Chair of Civil Law, Civil Procedure and Commercial Law). From 2003 through 2011 he served as full professor at Zurich University (Chair of Swiss and International Civil Procedure, Bankruptcy and Enforcement Law, Private and Business Law). He obtained the chair set forth above in 2011. Since 2012 he also serves as permanent visiting professor at the Law School of St. Gallen University, Switzerland. Professor Oberhammer is admitted to the bar in Hamburg, Germany and serves as of counsel with Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, London (International Arbitration Practice Group). He has acted as sole arbitrator, co-arbitrator and chairman in many international arbitration proceedings. Since 2014, he serves as dean of the Faculty of Law of Vienna University.
