Research

For many years, Christine Musselin has directed a comparative research program of higher education systems at the CSO.

Three overarching research orientations have developed, each one corresponds to a larger theoretical framework :
  • university management is incorporated in a larger debate about organization and decision theories;
  • education systems that are managed by public authorities lead to an analysis of public policies;
  • studies of the higher education labor market fit into the rubric of labor economics and sociology, and also that of judgment.

Over the past decade, Christine Musselin has explored these three areas of research with a group of doctoral students who are participating in the program. She has been particularly involved in the third area of research, which led to publication, in October 2005, of a book called Le marché des universitaires. France, Allemagne, Etats-Unis (The Academic Market, France, Germany, USA), published by Presses de Sciences Po, and in 2008 a book published by La Découverte, in the Repères collection, called Les universitaires (Academics).

She broadened her research perspectives through participation in the PRIME network, which facilitated an exchange of ideas between research on higher education and research on innovation and research systems.
