Elliott Hershel Lieb - Biography#

Elliott Lieb, born 1932, is one of world best mathematical physicists. He has a BSc from MIT and PhD from from the University of Birmingham. After several postdoctoral experiences he became a professor at MIT, since 1975 he is a professor of mathematics and physics at the Princeton University. He made pioneering contributions to many areas of physics, in particular, quantum theory of many-body systems and statistical physics. It is hard to find any field in modern mathematical physics where his name does not come up as one of original key contributors, even if the contribution may date back several decades. He educated some prominent mathematical physicists but his influence goes far beyond his direct descendants. His achievements were awarded by many notable prizes.
