Author or co-author of two books, 40 book chapters, 320 articles in archival journals (including 9 prize winning papers from ASCE, IABSE, and Elsevier), more than 600 papers in conference proceedings, and over 100 research reports . Editor or co-editor of 40 books published by ASCE, Balkema, CIMNE, CRC Press, Elsevier, McGraw-Hill, Taylor & Francis and Thomas Telford. Guest editor or co-editor of 17 special issues of international journals. From more than 12100 citations, 55 have been cited at least 55 times (h-index: 55) and 253 have been cited at least 10 times (i10-index: 253) (Google Scholar, October 2015).

Two-time (2014 and 2001) recipient of the Croes Medal, the second highest honor granted each year by the American Society of Civil Engineers for a technical paper judged worthy of special commendation for its merit as a contribution to the Engineering Science.

Recipient of the 2015 Alfred Noble Prize, granted by the American Society of Civil Engineers for the exceptional merit of a paper published across all the technical publications of five major engineering societies in the US (ASCE, AIME, ASME, IEEE, WSE).

Recipient of the 2012 Wellington Prize granted each year by the American Society of Civil Engineers for the best paper dealing with transportation on land, on the water, in the air, or on foundations.

Recipient of the 2007 Munro Prize granted by Elsevier for the best paper published each year in the international journal Engineering Structures.

Recipient of the 2007 Outstanding Paper Award (OPAC) granted by the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE) for the best paper published in Structural Engineering International, the official journal of IABSE.

Two-time (2004 and 1998) recipient of the State-of-the-Art Civil Engineering Award granted each year by the American Society of Civil Engineers for the most outstanding paper which reviews and interprets state-of-the art scientific and technical information.

Recipient of the 2003 Moisseiff Award granted each year by the American Society of Civil Engineers for an important paper dealing with the broad field of structural design.

Author of the most cited paper (see paper 9 below) in the journal Structure and Infrastructure Engineering, Taylor&Francis.
