Riccardo Contini - Biography#


Riccardo Contini graduated (laurea [M.A.]) in Semitic philology at the University of Pisa and Scuola Normale Superiore in November 1978, Los Angeles (UCLA), Rome (Pontifical Biblical Institute), and Paris (Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes, IVe Section).

A former member of the editorial board of the Annali dell’Istituto Orientale di Napoli – sez. Orientale (2003-2009), he is member of the Advisory Board of Studi e Materiali di Storia delle Religioni (since 2009).

He was co-editor for the Syriac section – with the edition of the History of Science issued by the Istituto dell’Enciclopedia Italiana (2000-01). He is editor of the collection “Testi del Vicino Oriente Antico” for Paideia Editrice (Brescia), since 2006. Chair of the Center for Jewish Studies of the University of Naples “L’Orientale”, since July 2009.

His researches have been funded by l’Università degli Studi di Napoli “L’Orientale” and by the Italian Ministry of University. He is the author of 52 articles (4 in collaboration), and 49 book reviews, and the editor of 2 volumes (1 in collaboration).

Field researches: ethnolinguistic research in Yemen and Oman.
