The author or editor of 9 books and author of 70 published papers, Nicholas Canny edited the first volume of The Oxford History of the British Empire. He has been awarded the Irish Historical Research prize of the National University of Ireland on two occasions (1976 and 2003) for books on the history of early modern Ireland. He is currently working on English and French writings on the Natural History of the West Indies, 1580-1720, and is, with Philip Morgan of Johns Hopkins University, editing a collection of 38 essays on the History of the Atlantic World, circa 1450- circa 1820 which will be published in 2011 by Oxford University Press.
