Prof. Ivan Stojmenovic, an AE member from Serbia, passed away after a car accident in November 2014. In addition to his affiliation at the University of Novi Sad in Serbia, he also held an affiliation at the University of Ottawa in Canada.

At the list of Top Computer Scientists of the World, based on the Hirsch's h index, and maintained at the UCLA in the USA, with an h index of 59, he is currently rated among the top 200(the entire list uncludes only those with the h index equal or higher than 40, and includes about 800 researchers).

This success should be viewed in the light of the following facts about the researcher on this list:
  • 1 Nobel Laureate

  • 32 Laureates of the Turing Award
  • 71 Members of the USA National Academy of Engineering

On this list, he was rated the best among four researchers of Serbian origine (Miodrag Potkonjak, UCLA, 56; Zoran Obradovic, Temple, 41; and Maja Mataric, USC, 40).

In the Academia Europaea, Serbia is now (2014) represented with three late members (Stojmenovic, Mihajlovic, Markovic) and 11 living members (Vunjak-Novakovic, Stojkovic, Sijacki, Radovic-Markovic, Mesinger, Milutinovic, Mihaljevic, Mladenovic, Gutman, Cvetkovic, Bozovic).
