Philosophy, theology and religious studies#

The Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies section includes researchers from all the central areas of these disciplines. Philosophy is normally divided these days into its ‘analytic’ and ‘continental’ branches, and the section’s members come from both branches. From analytic philosophy, the section contains experts in ethics, social and political philosophy, metaphysics, epistemology, philosophy of mind and cognitive science, philosophy of language, logic and methodology, philosophy of science, the philosophy of law and aesthetics. Continental philosophy is represented by experts in hermeneutics, phenomenology and feminist philosophy. From both branches the section contains a significant number of researchers in the history of philosophy. The central areas of research in theology are also represented, and a number of areas of religious studies. There are some areas of overlap between philosophy and theology, for example in the philosophy of religion, in phenomenology and in many areas of the history of philosophy.
