Oysters as waterfilters die

Oceans of plastic trash
There are large areas of the sea that are free of fish, but full of small plastic particles (killing fish when ingesting it).

The rise of slime
Population explosions of phytoplankton due to increased inputs of nutrients (chemical fertilizers, industrial animal waste, and sewage), overfishing of filter feeding shellfish and fishes that once ate the phytoplankton.
Unconsumed plankton die, sink to the bottom, and rot due to microbial decay that uses up all the oxygen.
Fishes, crabs and shellfish that cannot swim away die from lack of oxygen.
